#DigitalJedi Instagram Training Stage 3: #DigitalKnight
Do you know your stories from your highlights? Your showcases from your boomerangs? I hope you’ve brought your lightsaber because this 5-step guide will take you from a #SocialPadawan to a #DigitalJedi on Instagram!
You’ve passed stage 2 of your training. Now #SocialDroid come forth and take the next step to stage 3 and become a #DigitalKnight.
In stage 2 you learnt all about the magic of Stories and how well they can fit in your #ContentStrategy. We told you that they disappear after 24 hours… but do they?! Although they may disappear from the public eye, you can still find them and save them to your highlights.
Highlights are a great tool for organising and archiving your stories after they have expired. Here are some ideas for how to make use of highlights in your #SchoolMarketing:
-
Separate highlights for age groups (nursery/pre-prep/prep/junior/senior/sixth form).
-
Separate highlights for subjects/sports.
-
Highlights for productions.
-
Highlights for open days.
Once you have chosen your stories that you’d like to feature in your highlights, you can choose a cover photo that will display as the first page of the highlights. These highlights will appear at the top of your profile page, just below your bio and account information.
Did you know?! There are 2 types of profiles on Instagram: business and personal. Your school should be signed up under a business profile to gain access to a huge amount of extra free features. Having a business account will allow you to add calls to action on your profile, such as a direct link to your Eventbrite page to book events. It will also give 2 automatic call to action buttons: call and send email. Furthermore, having a business account lets you run Instagram ads and promotions and track insights on your posts. These will be explained more in your final stage 5 of #DigitalJedi training.
These days we will all have a smart phone in our pocket with remarkable photo-taking abilities. If you need further help on taking the perfect smartphone photo then check out our blog. Once you’ve taken your photo, you should think about how best to edit it. Instagram has a lot of built-in filters than can be used to transform your photo into a very high-quality image. Alternatively, we recommend an app called Snapseed which has a lot of photo-editing features and the best part… it’s completely free!
That is the end of Stage 3 but just the beginning of your training, young #DigitalKnight. Stay tuned for step 4 tomorrow to take a trip to The Dark Side to become a #SocialSith. The next stages will include some of our TOP tips to drive engagement and interesting advanced features to Instagram that you didn’t even know existed!
