#DigitalJedi Flickr Training Stage 2: #SocialDroid
Missed, you have been. Welcome you are.
Before you stands another test, young #SocialPadawan it is time to venture further into Flickr. Let us explore...Seriously, press the Explore button on the top row and see the wonders of the Flickr world!
As you can see our Flickr Explore is full of nature, what about yours?
This page is a great source of inspiration for potential photographs, if you click onto an image you like you can then favourite it, share it on social media; or comment on the picture.
Why not give it a go now? Find an image you like, favourite it and leave a comment congratulating them on such a nice photo.
However, the key part of the explore section, much like other Social Media channels, is the Trending page. Here you will find the most popular images, broken down into current, weekly and all time. You may be wondering how they end up here. Well, that is where Tags come in.
As you can see, tags here are different to the hashtags on Twitter, but they still serve just as important a service in making your content easier to find and group.
Now that you have seen tags in the wild, return to the upload page and let's start tagging your content!
You will see this option on the page after you click upload.
Thankfully the ‘Add tags’ option is self explanatory in how to tag and even provides options depending on what you type. HOWEVER, you are a #SocialPadawan, you don’t just randomly tag images, you BRAND them. Why am I not following the trending tags you may ask. Well, you are not in training to be a #BasicJedi, you are training to be a #DigitalJedi!
Branding involves keeping your tags unique to your school. Include your school name (or its abbreviation) and then your word. For example IntSchoolsSpirit...or something a bit more creative.
Now, why do you do this? Simple! Branding your work means that all of your content is available in one location, under the same tag. So, if you were looking to show parents examples of family at your school, you could bring up Flickr and search for (SchoolName)Family, then you’d have a full collection of images showing examples of family for any prospective parents.
Well done #SocialPadawan, you have come far on your stage 2 journey. You are now the master of the image, but we must ask: what about the moving image? Thankfully, this task is simple to someone as clued up on Flickr as you. In the same way that you upload an image... just do the same with a video, tagging and albums all function the same as well.
Keep these teachings in mind as you work through to becoming a #DigitalJedi, and remember…
Stage 2 is now complete, you have once again proven yourself to be a worthy wielder of The Flickr. Your recent studies have earned you the title #SocialDroid, be proud of yourself. The next steps will all move you closer to pulling your X - Wing from the Swamp and join the @intschools rebellion. But that is not for today, today young #SocialDroid, you shall rest.
Be sure to keep an eye out for Stage 3 and your steps to becoming a #DigitalKnight.
